about
Mind Flayer was the last song I wrote for 2018's February Album Writing Month. It began as a song for my friends who love DnD, Final Fantasy, and Stranger Things. But really, this song describes the stress of academia, college debts, and losing your mind.
Big thanks to Doctor_Newt, RavensFromSnow, and Metricula for inspiring me to write this tune.
lyrics
Intro: Dm, BbM, GM, A7
Dm Gm A7 Dm
When I stepped through the halls, thought I knew it all.
Dm Gm A7 C#dim7
Then they absorbed my brain, or maybe I went insane.
Chorus:
Dm BbM GM A7
Mind flayer, mind slayer, my soul has been enslaved.
Dm BbM GM A7
Mind flayer, mind slayer, now with my life I have paid.
Dm Gm A7 Dm
Behind their spectacles, hide their tentacles.
Dm Gm A7 C#dim7
And after enrollment, they wait for the right moment.
-Chorus-
Dm Gm A7 Dm
Trapped in a plane shift, no fracture, crack, or rift.
Dm Gm A7 C#dim7
And now there’s debt to pay, no escape, no getaway.
-Chorus-
FM Bb
What happened to daylight?
FM Gm
What happened to future bright?
FM CM
Have I lost all my memory?
FM A7 C#dim7
All I know is now I’m hungry.
Chorus:
Dm BbM GM A7
Mind flayer, mind slayer, my soul has been enslaved.
Dm BbM GM A7
Mind flayer, mind slayer, now with my life I’ve paid.
