When I first heard about Selkies, I thought they were wondrous beings. They are seals in the water and shed their skin on land to be human. Unfortunately, there are many stories that describe Selkies as "obedient wives." This is only if you capture and hide their seal skin. This song is meant to tell the Selkie's perspective of the story.

One night I came to shore, singing and dancing galore.
Full moon shining, my heart pining. Life on land I adore.
I shed my skin, free from sin, then I heard a crack.
As I saw his evil grin, I knew I’d never get it back.

He stole my skin before my eyes.
Knew well it was my demise.
Now with him I must live.
And my heart will never forgive.

With him I have lived these years, in between oceans of tears.
Living on land in deceit. Children raised with webbed feet.
They asked me many countless times, why are we different to human eyes?
And stories I sing of long ago, when I first was trapped in this woe.
